Yati, Yayati, Samyati, Ayati, Viyati and Krti: these six belonged to Nahusa, as the six senses belong to one who has a body. Yati did not want the kingdom his father gave him, knowing what it comes to in the end: a man who has gone into it does not come to know himself. The father was thrown down from his place by the twice-born for laying hands on Indra's wife, and made into a python; and so Yayati became king. The elder brother set his four younger brothers over the four quarters, and, having taken wives of Kavya and of Vrsaparvan, he guarded the earth. The revered Kavya was a brahmin sage, and Nahusa's son a kshatriya in name only. How did a marriage between a kshatriya and a brahmin come about, going against the grain?
