1I will tell you the line of Puru, in which you yourself were born, Bharata, and in which royal sages were born as its members, and lines of brahmins too. 2Of Puru was born Janamejaya, and his son was Pracinvat, and then Pravira, and then Manusyu, and of him came Carupada. 3His son was Sudyu, and of him came Bahugava, and then Samyati, and his son Ahamyati, whose son is remembered as Raudrasva. 4His sons were Rteyu, Kakseyu, Sthandileyu, Krteyuka, Jaleyu, Sannateyu, and Dharmeyu, Satyeyu and Vrateyu, 5These ten were the sons born in the apsaras Ghrtaci, and Vaneyu is remembered as the youngest of them: like the senses of the chief breath, who is the self of the world.
6Of Rteyu came Rantibhara, and he had three sons, king: Sumati, Dhruva and Apratiratha. Kanva was Apratiratha's son. 7His son was Medhatithi, and from him came the twice-born men beginning with Praskanva. Sumati's son was Raibhya, and Dusmanta is held to be Raibhya's son.
