The one who guarded me in the womb· Verses 5–7

My grandfathers crossed the ocean of the Kaurava army, hard to cross, with conquerors of the gods, Devavrata and other great chariot-fighters, for its sea-monsters. Having him for their boat, they made it a calf's hoofprint and crossed. This body of mine, scorched by Drona's son's weapon, the seed of the line of the Kurus and the Pandavas, he guarded, going into the womb with his disc in his hand, the womb of my mother who had gone to him for refuge. Learned one, tell of the mighty deeds of him who, within and without, in the forms of the Person and of Time, gives death and deathlessness to all who wear bodies, of him who is a man by his own maya.
