Then the goddess bore, from his mind, the portion of the Unfallen, auspicious for the world, set in her by Sura's son, the self of all become her own self, as a quarter of the sky bears the moon that makes gladness. That Devaki, become the dwelling of him who is the dwelling of all the worlds, did not shine out at all: like a flame of fire shut up in the house of the Bhoja lord, like learning in a man who begrudges knowledge. Seeing her unconquered within by her own splendour, lighting up the house, clear in her smile, Kamsa said: This Hari who takes my life has surely gone into that cave; for she was never like this before.

What is there for me to do about him, and quickly? He keeps to his purpose and does not give up his valour. And this killing of a woman, my own sister, and she with child, would destroy my fame, my fortune and, in time, my life.
