32Bhagavan said: In an earlier bringing forth you were Prsni, good woman, in the age of the Self-born; and this man was then a lord of creatures named Sutapa, in whom there was no stain. 33When the two of you were told by Brahma to bring forth offspring, you held in the whole crowd of your senses and then did the highest austerity. 34Bearing with the seasons and their qualities, rain and wind and sun, cold and heat, you shook the dirt out of your minds by holding your breath. 35Living on fallen leaves and on air, with your thoughts quieted, wanting from me the things you desired, you set about worshipping me. 36As the two of you did that fierce austerity, hardest of all to do, twelve thousand years of the gods went by, and your selves were in me.
37Then I was well pleased with you, faultless woman, in this same body, having been made present in your heart always by austerity, by trust and by devotion. 38I showed myself, the king of the givers of boons, wanting to give you what you wished for; and when it was said, let a boon be chosen, a son like me was what you chose.
