When that night was over, Kamsa called his ministers and told them all of it, what the sleep of yoga had said. Hearing their master's words, those enemies of the gods, sons of Diti, angry against the gods and not much given to wisdom, said to him. If it is so, lord of the Bhojas, then this very day we will kill the children in the towns and villages and cattle camps, those under ten days old and those over. What will the gods do with their efforts, cowards in battle as they are, their minds always shaken by the twang of your bowstring? Struck on every side by the crowds of arrows you shot, wanting to live, they gave up and went away, bent on nothing but running.

Some of those who live in heaven with their hands joined, wretched, their weapons laid down; and some with their loincloths and their topknots undone, saying, we are afraid. You do not kill those who have forgotten their weapons, or lost their chariots, or are wrapped in fear, or are attending to something else and turned away, or whose bows are broken, or who are not fighting.
