Yasoda took her crying son, fearing a seizer; she had the blessing recited by brahmins with the good hymns, and gave him the breast. The cart was set up again as it had been by the strong cowherds, with its gear; and the brahmins made the offering and worshipped it with curds and unbroken grain and kusa grass and water. Those who are free of spite and untruth and hypocrisy, of envy, of harming and of pride: the blessings of such men, whose nature is truth, are never made fruitless. So they took the child and sprinkled him with waters made ready with the Sama, the Rk and the Yajus, and with clean herbs, the best of the twice-born doing it;

and Nanda the cowherd, gathered in himself, had the blessing recited, made the offering in the fire, and gave food of great quality to the twice-born. For the prospering of his son he gave cows with every good quality, hung about with cloth and garlands and gold; and they took them up. The blessings said by those brahmins, who know the sacred words and are joined to them, will never at any time be fruitless. That much is plain.
