1Tell this, revered one: the cause of the curse upon those two. What was the blameworthy deed, or what was it by which darkness came over the divine sage? 2The two sons of the giver of wealth had become attendants of Rudra, and were swollen with pride. In the pleasant grove on Kailasa, beside the Mandakini, they were wild with drink. 3Having drunk the wine called varuni, their eyes rolling with it, they wandered about the flowering wood with women singing after them. 4Going down into the Ganga, which was ranged with beds of lotuses, the two of them played there with the young women, like a pair of bull elephants with their cows.
