The cowherds, Nanda and the rest, heard the noise of the two trees coming down and ran to the place, best of the Kurus, afraid it was a thunderbolt. There they saw the twin arjunas fallen to the ground, and they went about at a loss, making out no cause for the fall. There was the child, tied with the cord and dragging the mortar. Whose doing is this? Where has it come from? Is it a wonder or a portent? So they said, dismayed. The children said: It was he. He was dragging the mortar and it went crosswise as he passed between the trees. And we saw two men come out as well. They did not take what the children said. It cannot happen, they thought, that a child of his should tear up two trees. Some of them were left in doubt.

And Nanda, seeing his own son tied with the cord and dragging the mortar, with laughter on his face let him loose.
