Bharata, while the calf-herds were eating like this, their selves fixed on the Unfallen, the calves went far off into the wood, drawn on by the grass. Seeing them struck with fear, Krsna, who is the fear of fear itself, said: Friends, do not leave off eating. I will bring the calves back here myself. Saying this, the Bhagavan Krsna went off with the food still in his hand, looking for his own calves in the hills and caves and thickets and hollows. The lotus-born one had gone in among them to see some further sweet greatness of the Lord who was playing at being a child. Bearer of the Kuru line, he took the calves away from there, and then the calf-herds, and hid them elsewhere: he who had stood in the sky before, and seeing that mighty one release Aghasura had come to the greatest wonder.

Then Krsna, not seeing the calves, and coming back to the bank and not seeing the calf-herds either, searched the wood on every side for both of them. Not finding the calves or their keepers anywhere in the wood, Krsna, who knows the whole world, understood at once that all of this was the Ordainer's doing.
