Praised in this way by the snake's wives, the Bhagavan let go the one who lay senseless, his heads broken by the beating of those feet. With his senses and his breath given back to him, Kaliya drew breath slowly and with difficulty, and wretched, with his palms joined, he said this to Hari, to Krsna. We are wicked from our birth, dark, long in our anger. Master, one's own nature is hard to let go, and it is by that that the worlds take hold of what is not real. Ordainer, this world was sent out by you, and it is the pouring out of the strands, with its many natures and strengths and powers, its many wombs and seeds and dispositions and shapes.

And in the middle of it, Bhagavan, we are snakes, angry by our very kind. How are we to let go of your maya, which is hard to let go, when we are bewildered ourselves? You are the cause in this, all-knowing, the lord of the world. Whether you think of kindness or of restraint, do that to us.
