The Bhagavan looked at them, stricken as they were, and pleased with the plainness of their feeling he laid their clothes on his shoulder and spoke to them, glad, and smiling. Since you went into the water with no clothes on while you were under a vow, that is a slight to the god. To have the fault taken off you, join your hands above your head, bow, and then take your clothes. The women of Vraja took what the Unfallen said, held that bathing without clothes had broken their vow, and, wanting it whole, bowed to him, who stands there in person as the fruit of everything they had done and who wipes blame away. Seeing them bowed down like that, the Bhagavan, Devaki's son, gave them back their clothes; he was full of pity, and what they had done pleased him.

They had been thoroughly tricked, made to lose their shame, laughed at, handled like playthings, and their clothes taken; and even so they found no fault in him, being content in the company of the one they loved. Putting on their own clothes, held fast by the nearness of the one they loved and with their minds taken from them, they did not move away from him, and their eyes were shy.
