1King, when Indra understood that his own worship had been stopped, he grew angry at the cowherds, at Nanda and the rest, who had Krsna for their lord. 2In his anger Indra sent out that troop of clouds called Samvartaka, the ones that make an end of things, and, holding himself to be the Lord, he spoke. 3Look at the grandness of these cowherds, drunk on their wealth, who live in the woods, and who have taken shelter with Krsna, a mortal, and slighted a god. 4As men who leave aside the knowledge that examines and try to cross the sea of becoming by rites made of works, boats in name only and unsound ones. 5A talker, a child, stiff-necked, knowing nothing and thinking himself learned, a mortal: it is with him, with Krsna, that the cowherds have taken shelter, and they have done me this wrong.
6Shake the pride of wealth out of these men, smeared over with their riches, whose heads Krsna has swollen, and bring their cattle to ruin. 7And I shall mount the elephant Airavata and follow you down upon Vraja with the troops of the winds, who move at great speed, meaning to destroy Nanda's cow-station.
