1When Krsna had gone out to the wood, the cowherd women, their minds running after him, sang out the plays of Krsna and carried the days through in pain. 2Cowherd women, where Mukunda lays his left cheek on his left arm and his eyebrows dance, the flute set at his lip, and he sets it sounding with soft fingers along its covered stops — 3the women who travel the sky, and the perfected ones with them, took it in and were amazed and grew shy; their thought given over to the arrows of desire, they went faint and forgot the knots of their skirts.
