The cause of all causes· Verses 1–3

।

।

।

I bow to you, the cause of all causes, Narayana, the first Person, who does not waste away, from the cup of the lotus born at whose navel Brahma came out, and from whom this world came. Earth, water, fire, wind, space and what begins them, the great principle, the unborn and the rest, mind, the senses, all the things the senses go after, and all the shining ones: these that are the causes of the world are your limbs. These do not know your own nature, which is the self's; the unborn and the rest were taken as not being the self. And the unborn one, tied by the strands of the unborn female, does not know your own nature, which is past the strands.
