He went to Hastinapura, which carries the fame of the lords of the Puru line, and saw there the son of Ambika with Bhisma, and Vidura, and Prtha, and Bahlika with his son, and the son of Bharadvaja with the son of Gautama, and Karna and Suyodhana and Drona's son, and the Pandavas, and other friends. The son of Gandini met his kinsmen as he should, and they asked him for news of their friends, and he for his part asked after them, leaving nothing out. He stayed some months, wanting to find out how it stood with the king, who had bad sons, little substance in him, and a way of falling in with what the wicked wanted.

The splendour, force, strength and courage of the sons of Prtha, their modesty and their other good qualities, and the people's love for them, were more than those men could bear; and what they meant to do, and what the sons of Dhrtarastra had already done, the giving of poison and other ugly things, Prtha and Vidura told him, the whole of it.
