Ambika, again and again I bow to you, kindly one, with your children about you. May the Bhagavan Krsna be my husband; may she agree to it. With water, with scent and unhusked rice, with incense, with cloth and garlands and wreaths and ornaments, with all kinds of gifts and offerings, with rows of lamps, each thing in its turn, and with these same things she honoured the brahmin women who had husbands, and with salt and cakes and betel and neck-threads and fruit and sugar cane. Those women gave her what was left of the offering and laid their blessings on her; and the bride bowed to them and to the goddess and took what was left.

Then she gave up her vow of silence and came out of Ambika's house, holding a serving woman by the hand, her own hand bright with a jewelled ring.
