He drew his bow hard and struck Krsna with three arrows, and said: Stand here a moment, you soiler of the Yadu house. Where are you going, having stolen my sister as a crow steals the offering? Today I will take away your pride, you dull thing, you trickster, you crooked fighter. Let go of the girl before you lie killed by my arrows. Smiling, Krsna cut his bow and pierced Rukmi with six shafts; with eight he struck the four horses, with two the driver, with three the standard. And Rukmi took up another bow and pierced Krsna with five. Struck by those floods of arrows, the Unfallen cut that bow too; and when he took up yet another, the one who does not waste away cut that as well.

Iron bar, spiked club, spear, shield and sword, javelin and lance: whatever weapon he took up, Hari cut it all to pieces. Then he leapt down from his chariot, sword in hand, and in his anger rushed at Krsna to kill him, as a moth rushes at fire. As he came on, Krsna cut his sword and his shield to seed-sized pieces with arrows, and took up his own sharp sword, raised to kill Rukmi.
