9In no long time the son of Krsna came into full youth, and he set the women who looked at him swaying. 10Her husband, long-eyed as a lotus petal, long-armed, the beauty of the world of men, Rati looked at with a shy smile and lifted brows, and waited on him lovingly, dear one, with the ways of love. 11The Bhagavan, Krsna's son, said to her: Mother, your mind is otherwise. You have stepped past the feeling of a mother and behave like a woman in love. 12You are Narayana's son, taken from home by Sambara. I am your rightful wife, Rati, and you are Kama, my lord. 13This Sambara, the demon, threw you into the sea before you were ten days old. A fish swallowed you, and out of its belly you came here, lord.
14Kill this enemy of yours, hard to face and hard to beat. He knows a hundred mayas: kill him with mayas, beginning with bewildering him. 15Your mother grieves for you like an osprey whose young are gone, wretched, torn by love for her son, in pain like a cow whose calf is lost. 16Having spoken so, Mayavati gave to Pradyumna, that great self, the knowledge called the great maya, which destroys every maya.
