With Akrura gone away, ill signs came upon the people of Dvaraka: burnings of body and mind again and again, from the gods and from the elements. Some pointed to this as the reason, dear one, forgetting what had been said before: how can the sight of ill signs come about where he lives who is the dwelling of the sages? When the god was not raining, the king of Kasi gave his own daughter Gandini to Svaphalka, who had come there; and after that it rained among the Kasis. His son is this Akrura, and the power is in him too. Wherever he is, the god rains there, and there are no burnings and no plagues. Hearing this word of the old men, and thinking that this by itself is not the cause here, Janardana had Akrura brought and spoke to him.
