6Hearing the sound of the Pancajanya, terrible as the thunderbolt at the end of an age, Mura the Daitya, who had five heads, rose up out of the water where he lay. 7Raising his trident, very hard to look at, terrible with the light of the sun and fire at the end of an age, swallowing the three worlds as it seemed with his five mouths, he rushed at the son of Tarksya as a snake rushes. 8He whirled the trident fast and flung it at Garuda, and roared with his five mouths; and that great one, filling heaven and earth and all the quarters and the space between, shut in the shell of the egg. 9As it flew at Garuda, Hari broke the three-pointed thing into three with two arrows by main strength, and struck him too on the mouths with arrows; and he in rage let a mace go at him.
10As that mace came at him in the fight, the elder brother of Gada broke the mace with his own into a thousand pieces; and as the man ran at him with his arms raised, the Unconquered took his heads off with the disc, in play. 11Headless and without breath he fell into the water, like a mountain with its peak cut off by Indra's fire. His seven sons, in pain at their father's killing, took to their anger and stood up to pay it back.
