How did Rukmi give his daughter to the son of the enemy who beat him in battle? Slighted by Krsna, he was watching for a gap in which to kill him. Tell me this, learned one: a marriage made between two who hated each other. What has not yet come and what is past and what is now, what lies beyond the senses, what is far off and what is screened from sight: yogins see all of it as it is. She chose him at her own choosing, the bodiless one himself now wearing a body; and he beat the kings who had gathered there and carried her off in the fighting, alone in his chariot. Though he remembered the enmity, Rukmi, whom Krsna had humbled, handed his daughter over to his sister's son, doing the thing that would please his sister.

And Rukmini's daughter, king, the wide-eyed girl Carumati, was taken in marriage by the strong son of Krtavarman. Rukmi gave his granddaughter Rocana to Aniruddha, his own daughter's son and Hari's grandson. The enmity was still tied fast in him, but he wanted to please his sister, and though he knew that marriage to be a wrongdoing, the cords of affection held him.
