22In the meantime Yama's messengers carried me to Yama's house, and there, God of gods, lord of the world, Yama asked me: 23Ruler of men, will you eat first what is ill, or what is good? I see no end to your giving, or your dharma, or the shining world you have earned. 24I said: God, let me eat first what is ill. Then he said, Fall. And even as I fell I saw myself a lizard, lord. 25Kesava, I cared for brahmins, I was open-handed, I was your servant; and my remembering has not been broken up even now, since I have wanted the sight of you. 26How is it, all-pervading one, that you, the supreme Self, whom the masters of yoga make out in a heart cleaned by the eye of what is heard, you who are beyond the reach of the senses, have come into the path of my eyes, mine, whose understanding is blinded by long trouble? For whoever sees you here, becoming is finished.
