16The Bhagavan Sankarsana, who knew every way of soothing, comforted them with messages from Krsna that went straight to the heart. 17And the Bhagavan Rama stayed there two months, Madhu and Madhava, bringing the cowherd women their pleasure through the nights. 18In a garden by the Yamuna, wiped over by the rays of the full moon, with the wind carrying the scent of the night lotus, he took his pleasure, waited on and ringed about by crowds of women. 19The goddess Varuni, sent by Varuna, came falling from the hollow of a tree and made that whole wood fragrant with her own smell. 20Bala caught that smell of the honey stream, which the wind had brought him, went over to it, and drank it there together with the women.
21The plough-bearer, with the women singing his deeds around him, went about in the woods drunk, his eyes swimming with the drink. 22He wore a garland and a single earring, and the Vaijayanti garland as well; and drunk, he carried a lotus face that smiled and was decked with the frost of its own sweat.
