1I want to hear more of Rama, whose deeds are astonishing, who has no end and no measure, and of what else the lord did. 2There was a certain ape named Dvivida, a friend of Naraka's, a minister of Sugriva and the brother of Mainda, and he was strong. 3To pay back what he owed his friend, that ape threw the country into ruin, setting fire to towns and villages and mines and cattle-stations and burning them down. 4Sometimes he tore up hills and ground whole districts to powder with them, and the Anarta country most of all, where Hari lived, who had killed his friend. 5Sometimes he stood in the middle of the sea and threw its water up with his arms and drowned the lands along the shore; he had the strength of ten thousand elephants.
