in anger he took up his pestle and his plough, meaning to kill his enemy. And Dvivida, who was very strong himself, lifted a sala tree in his hand, came at him hard and struck Bala on the head with it. But Sankarsana, steady as a mountain, took that blow on his head as it came down, the strong one took it, and struck him with Sunanda. His skull broken by the pestle, he shone with the stream of blood, as a mountain shines with red ochre. Paying no mind to the blow, he pulled up another tree and by main strength stripped it bare, and struck him with it in a great fury; and Bala split it a hundred ways. Then in his rage he struck with another, and Bala split that one a hundred ways too.

Fighting like this with the Bhagavan, and having them broken again and again, he dragged up trees from every side and left the wood with no tree in it. Then, past bearing it, he let loose a rain of stones over Bala; and he whose weapon is the pestle ground the whole of it to powder in play.
