40Today I will make the earth without a Kaurava in it. Past bearing it, he stood up with his plough in his hand, as though he were burning the three worlds. 41With the tip of his plough he tore up the city named for the elephant and dragged it toward the Ganga, past bearing it, meaning to strike. 42Seeing the city swaying like a boat on the water, falling into the Ganga, being dragged along, the Kauravas were thrown into confusion. 43They went to him for refuge with their households, wanting to live; and putting Samba with Laksmana in front of them, with their palms joined, they came to the lord. 44Rama, Rama, holder of everything up, we did not know what you can do. We are fools of poor understanding, and you should forgive us our offence.
