Bhagavan said: Give us a fight, chief of kings, one against one, if you think it right. We have come wanting a fight. We are kshatriyas, and we want nothing else. This is Wolf-belly, the son of Prtha, and this is his brother Arjuna. Know me for their mother's brother's son, Krsna, your enemy. Told this, the Magadha king laughed aloud, and in his anger he said: Fools. Then I will give you your fight. But I will not fight you, coward, whose fire fails in battle, who left Mathura, your own city, and went to the sea for refuge. And this one is not my equal in years, nor strong enough, nor any match for me. Arjuna will not be my fighter. Bhima is my equal in strength.

Saying this, he handed Bhimasena a great mace, took a second himself, and went out of the city.
