The men of the assembly weighed who among those seated deserved the first honour, and could not settle it, since it went no one way; and then Sahadeva spoke. The Unfallen deserves the highest place, the Bhagavan, lord of the Satvatas. He is all the gods, and he is the place and the time and the wealth and the rest of it. This whole world has him for its self, and the rites have him for their self: the fire, the offerings, the sacred words, enumeration and yoga, and he is what they are all for. He is one and has no second. Members of the assembly, this world has him for its being. He is unborn and rests on himself, and by himself he makes it and keeps it and destroys it.

It is by looking to him that this whole world brings forth its many kinds of work here and strives after the good that is marked out as dharma and the rest. So let the highest honour be given to Krsna, who is great. If it is done so, it will be an honouring of every being, and of oneself. It should be given to Krsna, who has become the self of every being, who sees nothing as other, who is at peace and full, by anyone who wants what he gives to have no end. Having said this, Sahadeva, who knew Krsna's power, fell silent; and hearing it all the best of men praised him: Well said, well said.
