36Bhagavan said: The Veda teaches that a man's own self is born as his son. So let his son be the reciter here, with the life and the senses and the strength that were granted. 37Best of sages, what do you want? Tell me and I will do it. And think out for me, wise ones, how I am to make amends for what I did without knowing. 38There is a fearful danava, Ilvala's son, Balvala by name. He comes at every joint of the moon and fouls our sacrifice. 39Kill that wicked one, Dasarha. He rains down pus and blood and dung and urine and liquor and meat. That would be the best service you could do us. 40And after that, going round the land of Bharata with a settled mind for twelve months and bathing at the fords, you will be made clean.
