So Hari, who knows the minds of all beings, talking on in this way with that best of the twice-born, smiled and said to him; Krsna the Bhagavan, who is kind to brahmins and is the way the good go, laughing at his dear brahmin and looking at him with a look that was nothing but love; Bhagavan said: What present have you brought me from your house, brahmin? Even a small thing brought with love by those devoted to me becomes a great deal to me, and a great deal brought by one who is not devoted does not please me. Whoever gives me a leaf, a flower, a fruit or water with devotion, that offering brought by devotion from one who has made himself clean is what I eat.

Though he was told this, the twice-born man stood ashamed before the husband of Sri, king, with his face down, and did not hand over his handful of flattened rice.
