7Aniruddha stayed behind on guard, and Krtavarma the troop leader. The rest came with chariots like the seats of the gods, and with horses that ran as though swimming, 8with elephants trumpeting like clouds, and men bright as vidyadharas. They shone out on the road, great in their splendour, with gold chains at their necks, 9in heavenly garlands and garments and armour, with their wives, like beings that travel the sky. Greatly favoured, they bathed there and fasted and held themselves collected, 10and gave the brahmins cows hung about with cloth and garlands and gold. The Vrsnis bathed again in Rama's pools as the rule requires,
11and gave good food to the best of the twice-born, saying: let us have devotion to Krsna. Then, with his leave, the Vrsnis, who take Krsna for their god, 12ate their fill and sat down as they pleased at the feet of trees with cool shade. And there they saw the kings who had come, their friends and their connections by marriage: 13the Matsyas, Usinaras, Kausalyas, Vidarbhas, Kurus and Srnjayas, the Kambojas and Kaikeyas, the Madras, the Kuntis, the Anartas and the Keralas, 14and hundreds of others, king, some on their own side and some on the other; and Nanda and their friends the cowherds, and the cowherd women, who had been longing for them a long while.
