Bhagavan said: Our birth has borne fruit, and we have got the whole of what it is for, since the sight of the lords of yoga is hard to come by even for the gods. And what then of men of little austerity, whose eyes find the god in an image: this seeing, this touching, this asking, this bowing, this worship of the feet and the rest? Fords are not made of water, and gods are not made of clay and stone. These make a man clean over a long time; the good make him clean by the mere sight of them. Not fire, not the sun, not the moon and the stars, not earth, water, sky, wind, speech or mind: worshipped by one who makes divisions, they do not carry off wrongdoing; the wise destroy it by an hour's attendance.

One who takes the self to be this corpse of three humours, who thinks his wife and the rest his own, who honours what is only earth, who takes a ford to be water and never takes it to lie among people who know: he is a cow and an ass.
