Clarity, passion and darkness, called the strands, and whatever workings are theirs, are laid upon you plainly, upon supreme Brahman, by yogamaya. Therefore these states are not, since they are only set out as divisions in you; and you, in these changes, at other times stand outside all common dealing. In this current of the strands the unwise, not knowing the fine way of you who are the self of all, go round here from birth to birth by their works. Having got by chance a human birth here, well made and hard to come by, a man heedless of his own good sees his years go by through your maya, Lord. This is I, and these are mine: so, in the body and in what follows from it, its kin, you bind this whole world with the cords of affection.

You two are not our sons. You are plainly the lords of the ground and the Person, come down for the wiping out of the kshatriyas that are the earth's burden. So indeed you said. So today I have gone for refuge to that lotus foot of yours, which takes away the fear of the round of birth that has come upon me, friend of the afflicted. Enough now, enough of this hankering after the senses, and of taking a mortal for the self, and of my thinking you a child, you who are the supreme. In the birthing room you said, unborn one, that you were born to us age after age for the guarding of your own dharma. Making many bodies as the sky does, you leave them. You who are widely sung, who knows the maya of the vast one's greatness?
