Hearing his father speak so, the Bhagavan, bull of the Satvatas, bent low in respect and answered him smiling, in a smooth voice. Bhagavan said: Father, we hold this word of yours to be well fitted together, since with us your sons for its aim the whole company of what is real has been set out. I, you, this honoured elder, and these people who live in Dvaraka: all of them, best of the Yadus, are to be looked into in this way, and everything that moves and does not move. The self is one, lit by itself, everlasting, other than all this, beyond the strands; and by the strands it has itself sent forth it shows as many in the beings those strands have made.

Sky, wind, fire, water and earth, in the things they have made, show or are hidden, are little or large, according to what holds them; and this one too comes to manyness. So the Bhagavan spoke, king, to Vasudeva; and hearing it, his many-mindedness undone, he grew silent and glad at heart.
