A man who wants to pull out quickly the knot in the heart of the self, which is the highest, should serve the god Kesava by the rule, and by the rule the manuals lay down. Having been given the teacher's favour, and shown the tradition by him, let him worship the great Person in whatever form his own heart holds dear. Clean, and seated facing him, having cleared the body by holding the breath and the rest, and made his guard by the placings, let him worship Hari. In the image and the rest, and in the heart as well, with whatever means of service he has come by, having made ready the things to offer, the ground, himself and the image, and sprinkled the seat.

Then, having got ready the water for the feet and the rest, and drawn him near, and gathered himself, and made the placings that begin at the heart, let him worship with the root mantra. That form, whichever it is, with its limbs and lesser limbs and its companions, by its own mantra, with water for the feet, water of welcome, water for the mouth and the rest, with bathing and clothing and ornaments. With scent, garlands, unbroken rice and wreaths, with incense and lamp and offerings, having worshipped him fully and by the rule, let him praise Hari with hymns and bow to him. Meditating on himself as made of him, let him worship the form of Hari; then set what is left on his own head, and, having honoured the form, send it up into its own abode.

Whoever worships the Lord, the self, in this way, in fire, in the sun, in water and the rest, in a guest and in his own heart, is set free before long.
