22Brahmins, if there is no manyness in the thing that the self is, how can a question like yours hold together? And what would it rest on for me, who am to answer it? 23In beings made of the five, which are the same in what they really are, this question of yours, who are you, is a starting up of words and comes to nothing. 24What is taken hold of by the mind, by speech, by sight, and by the other senses too, is I alone, and nothing other than me. Know this straight off. 25The mind goes into the strands and the strands into the mind, children. Both, the strands and the mind, are the body of the living one, whose self is I.
26The mind that has gone into the strands by serving them again and again, and the strands that arise out of the mind: let one who stands in my form give up both. 27Waking, dream and deep sleep are workings of the understanding and come from the strands. The living one is other than these, and is settled as the one who watches.
