What a man who wants nothing has· Verses 12–17

Good man, one who has given the self over to me and expects nothing from anywhere has that happiness which comes with me as his self. How should those whose minds are on things ever have it? For a man who owns nothing, restrained, at peace, even in mind, his mind content with me, every quarter is full of happiness. One who has given the self over to me wants no highest standing, nor the seat of great Indra, nor rule over the earth, nor lordship of the world below, nor the powers of yoga, nor even the not being born again: he wants nothing apart from me. Not the self-born, nor Sankara, nor Sankarsana, nor Sri, nor even my own self, is as dear to me as you are.

I walk behind the sage who expects nothing, who is at peace, who has no enmity, who sees evenly, thinking: let me be made clean by the dust of his feet. Those who own nothing, whose minds are in love with me, at peace, great-hearted, tender to every living thing, whose thinking no desires have touched: they taste that expecting of nothing which is my happiness, and others do not know it.
