That by which a man sees in beings the nine, the eleven, the five and the three states, and then sees the one in these as well: that I hold to be knowledge. And this is full knowing: to see the standing, the arising and the passing away of the states that are made of the three strands no longer as before, but by the one alone. What follows the thing made, out of the thing that makes it, at the beginning and at the end and in the middle; and what is left when that goes back again: that alone is real. The heard word, what is before the eyes, what is handed down, and inference: these four. Because nothing stays put under these measures, a man turns away from the many.
