Where they come together· Verses 6–11

Their coming together, Uddhava, is the thought that says I and mine. Their coming together is the ordinary business carried on with mind, subtle objects, senses and breaths. When a man stands settled in dharma, in wealth and in desire, this is the drawing near of the strands, which brings him trust, pleasure and money. When a man is fixed in the way marked by going out into action, in the householder's stage, and carries out his own duty, that is the meeting of the strands. One should infer that a man is joined with clarity by calm and the rest, joined with passion by desire and the rest, joined with darkness by anger and the rest.

When someone serves me with devotion through his own works, looking for nothing, know that one, man or woman alike, to be of the nature of clarity. When one asks for blessings and then serves me through his own works, know him to be of the nature of passion; and one who asks for harm, of darkness.
