At the end of a thousand divine years, in the fourth age, the Krta will come again, and then the minds of men will be lit by the self. So this is the line of Manu, as it is counted on the earth; and in the same way the lines of the merchants, the sudras and the brahmins are to be known, age by age. Of these great men, who were names and shapes and are left as story and nothing more, it is only the renown that stands on the earth. Devapi, Santanu's brother, and Maru, born in the line of Iksvaku, are sitting in the village Kalapa, holding great power of yoga. At the end of the Kali age those two will come here, taught by Vasudeva, and lay out again, as it was before, the dharma that goes with class and stage.

Krta, Treta, Dvapara and Kali: this set of four ages goes on turning among living things on the earth in just this order.
