26Clarity, passion and darkness: these strands are seen in a person, and, set moving by time, they turn about within the self. 27When the mind and the understanding and the senses come out strong in clarity, know that to be the Krta age, where the taste is for knowledge and for austerity. 28When the love of those who wear bodies is for dharma, wealth and desire, then it is the Treta, whose working is passion. Know it so, wise one. 29When there is greed and no contentment, pride and show and envy, and works still done with a wish, that is the Dvapara: passion and darkness together. 30When there is trickery and lying, dullness, sleep, harm and misery, grief and confusion, fear and wretchedness, that is remembered as the Kali, which is darkness.
