While the oil lasts· Verses 6–8

It is the mind that makes bodies for the self, and strands, and works; and maya makes that mind. Out of this comes the round of birth for the living one. As long as oil and holder and wick and fire are found together, from that the lamp has its being a lamp. In the same way the becoming that the body makes is born by the working of passion and clarity and darkness, and then is destroyed. In all that the self is not, the self that shines by itself, which is beyond what is shown and what is not shown. It is a holder, like space, and steady, and past that it can be likened only to what has no end.
