The pupils of Vaisampayana became the Caraka officiants, because for their teacher they carried out a vow that wiped away the guilt of killing a brahmin. And Yajnavalkya, his pupil, said: ah, revered one, how much is it worth, this practice of men of little substance? I will carry out something far harder. Spoken to like this, the teacher too said in his anger: go; I have had enough of you. You are a pupil who looks down on brahmins. Give up at once what you have learned from me. And he, the son of Devarata, vomited up the set of the Yajus and went away. Then the sages saw those Yajus verses, and, becoming partridges, took them up out of greed for them. Those became the branches of the Yajus called of the partridges, and they are very finely made.

Then Yajnavalkya, brahmin, looking for verses his teacher did not have, waited well upon the sun, the Lord.
