Suta, live long, good man, and speak to us, best of speakers. For men wandering in a darkness that has no far shore, you are the one who sees the other side. People call the sage, Mrkanda's son, long of life: he was the one left over at the end of the aeon by which this world was swallowed. But that bull of the Bhrgus was born in our own line, and in this present aeon; and even now no flooding away of living beings has come at all. Alone, drifting on the ocean, he saw, they say, a Person: a child lying in the cup of a banyan leaf, one and astonishing. This is our great doubt, Suta, and our eagerness comes of it. Cut it away for us, great yogin; you are held in honour even in the old tellings.
