Praised in this way by the thoughtful Markandeya, the Bhagavan Narayana, friend of Nara, was pleased, and spoke to the bearer of the Bhrgu line. Bhagavan said: Sir, you are the best of the brahmin sages. You are come to your full by settling into the self, by a devotion to me that does not fall away, and by austerity, recitation and restraint. We are well pleased with you for the keeping of your great vow. Good come to you: ask the giver of boons for the boon you want. Victory is yours, god, lord of gods, Unfallen, you who take away the distress of those who come to you. This much of a boon is enough for us: that you have let yourself be seen.

The unborn one and the others got the sight of your lovely lotus feet by a mind ripened in yoga, and here you are, within reach of my eyes. Even so, you whose eyes are lotus petals, crest jewel of those whose verses are holy: let me see the maya by which the world and its guardians take what is real to be divided.
