Where did Hindu and Turk come from? Who set these roads running? Think it over in your heart, you quarreller: who has been given paradise, and who hell? Qāzī, what *katēb* is this you are preaching? All who read and ponder like that are undone, and not one of them has got the news. *(refrain)* For the love of a woman a man has himself circumcised. I will not have it, brother. If Khudā means to make me a Turk, it will be cut off of itself. If circumcision makes a man a Turk, what of his woman? She is half his body, and he will not leave her; so I shall stay a Hindu. Let the katēb go, sing Rām, madman: the wrong you are doing is heavy. Kabīr has taken hold of Rām's support, and the Turks are left worn out. *katēb*, the revealed books: Torah, Psalms, Gospel, Qur'ān.
