In plain words

He looked fire, and the god of the lovely arrows fell as ash. He is Kanchi's Ēkampar, who delights to dwell in the pool of the hearts of those who love him. On his tall Kailāsa, cruel arrows sank into the brow of an elephant, so that it fell on the mountain slope and your flowering bough was saved. This broad drum now sounding: is it his, the man of those cruel arrows, or is it not?

Line by line

So that he of the lovely flower arrows fell as ash, he who looked fire; of those who love, delighting to dwell in the pool of the heart, Kanchi's Ēkampar; of tall Kailāsa the elephant falling on the mountain slope, your bough saved, into the brow-globe sinking of the one with the cruel arrows, or not, is this broad drum?
