In plain words

He came near to save the good Brahmin of Kaṭavūr, rich in fame, and crushed the Death that comes to kill: he is a fiercer Death. He is the nectar of Tirumaṟaikkāṭu, where cool waves abound. He is the golden mountain who dwells at Ēkampam in grove-filled Kanchi, whom the mountain's daughter embraces always.

Line by line

Coming near, so that the good Brahmin of Kaṭavūr, rich in fame, would be saved, the fierce Death who crushed killing Death; where cool waves abound, the nectar of Tirumaṟaikkāṭu; always the mountain's daughter embraces him, the golden mountain who dwells in Ēkampam in grove-filled Kanchi indeed.
