In plain words
The poet, of Araṅgam: He brought back to life the offspring of his nephew [Abhimanyu's son Parīkṣit, born as a charred log], and, standing as their teacher, guarded his brothers-in-law [the Pāṇḍavas] so that their bodies did not fall in that sacrifice of men [the great war]: his town is the place called Araṅgam of the waters, where red lotuses, like his sacred face, and dark kuvaḷai, like his sacred colour, bloom face to face as if fighting each other.
